Arterial Doppler ultrasound uses sound waves to evaluate the arterial blood flow to the upper extremities (arms) and lower extremities (legs). The Arterial Doppler study is able to demonstrate blocked or reduced blood flow through the major arteries of the arms and legs. Patients with leg pains, foot ulcers and swelling in the legs are a good candidate for this study. It is used to diagnose peripheral artery disease in smokers, diabetics and patients with coronary artery disease and stroke.
